Charlevoix’s Belvedere Golf Club will play host to the 103rd Michigan Amateur for a record 40th time when the state’s most prestigious amateur championship heads to this historic venue June 16-20. After hosting the Michigan Amateur 12 times from 1930-58, Belvedere was the permanent host for the championship from 1963-88. Since other venues have hosted the championship starting in 1989, Belvedere served as host in 2003. The William Watson design also played host to the 2013 GAM Senior Championship. For competitors not exempt, sectional qualifying for the 103rd Michigan Amateur will be contested at 12 sites from May 6-31. There will also be a Second Chance Qualifier held at Owosso Country Club on June 4. The Michigan Amateur begins with two rounds of stroke play, over a two-day period. At the completion of stroke play, the field is cut to 64 for the first round of match play. Match play continues for three days and six rounds until a champion emerges on the final afternoon of the tournament. As with all GAM events, spectators are welcome and admission is free.
