COURSE OF THE WEEK: Taylor Meadows Golf Club

Conveniently located just 10 minutes east of Detroit Metro Airport, Taylor Meadows is one of two golf courses owned and operated by the city of Taylor. If you have ever been driving east bound on I-94 towards Detroit from the west side of the state, Taylor Meadows is the course you see off the south side of the freeway.

When you play at Taylor Meadows Golf Club you will experience some of the best golf in Taylor. Opened in 1989, the course was designed by well-known golf course architect Arthur Hills, and is great whether you are looking to improve your game, or simply savor a day of Taylor golf. The professionally designed course will challenge you to lower your score on the fairways, numerous water hazards and carefully placed sand traps.

Recent renovations at Taylor Meadows include work on the landscaping and quality of conditioning, as well as updates to the clubhouse. The course offers a full-service pro shop with the latest golf gear for any of your needs. Taylor Meadows also has indoor/outdoor dining options with excellent views. If you are looking for a facility for your next outing, banquet, or special event, Taylor Meadows is just the place. The beautiful banquet facilities can accommodate up to 275 guests, with the latest technology available. A bar/lounge area also has TV’s to watch the game while you enjoy delicious bar food and drinks after league play or an outing.

Taylor Meadows has practice facilities right on site to help you warm up before a round or just hone your skills between rounds. The practice facilities include a hitting station with net and a putting green.

Playing at 6,049 yards from the furthest tees, Taylor Meadows isn’t an extremely long course, but what it lacks it distance it makes up for in strategical play. Helping to make the course challenging is the number of doglegs, tree-lined fairways, and water hazards. The course offers the opportunity for those golfers willing to take on the challenge of driving the green from a few holes, but it is a risk/reward option.

There are 10 par fours on the course of 367 yards or less, and the 4 par threes average about 170 yards in length. The three par fives will typically take three shots to reach the green, and the one remaining par four is the longest of the par fours, measuring at 419 from the tips.

The course provides a wide variety in shot selection, with doglegs bending in both directions. New trees have been planted in recent years and are scattered throughout the course. The condition of the fairways, bunkers and greens have all experienced the same type of improvements rendered to the clubhouse area.
