GRAND BLANC, Mich. – Andrew Walker of Battle Creek, Michigan, carded a tournament total 3-over-par 219 to take home his second AJGA victory of 2015 at the Randy Wise Junior Open. In the Girls Division, Allyson Geer of Brighton, Michigan, carried her lead through the final round to claim the championship trophy with a 4-under-par 212.
Walker opened up on the front nine with four bogeys, but bounced back to tally five birdies and card a Boys Division low final-round even-par 72. This is the Michigan native's third AJGA championship, but first AJGA win in his home state.
“It feels great to win in my home state,” Walker said. “I have been to a lot of places in the past and played in some great events and even won in those states, but to play in Michigan is nice because I can distinguish myself as a top player within my state.”
Alexander Scott of Traverse City, Michigan, Michael Busse of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Joe Montpas of Flushing, Michigan, tied for second at 7-over-par 223. Zachary Rosendale of Saint Johns, Michigan, took fifth at 9-over-par 225.
In the Girls Division, Geer posted six birdies in her 2-under-par 70 round, including three in a row on Nos. 11, 12, and 13. The rising junior, who won the Michigan Women’s Amateur event just last week, took home her third AJGA title by nine strokes.
“It has always been a goal of mine to win an AJGA open event so it is great to win one of my last tournaments of the year,” Geer said. “It especially means so much for me to win in my home state because I have so many amazing people here watching and supporting me and that just means the world to me.”
Kendall Griffin of Sebring, Florida, took second at 5-over-par 221 and Sarah White of Caledonia, Michigan, placed third after carding a tournament total 6-over-par 222.
