SPARTAN WOMEN SET SCHOOL RECORD IN FLORIDA

Feb. 18, 2014

The Michigan State Women’s Golf Team broke a school record with the lowest 54-hole team score in program history at the Central District Invitational at the Cypress Links Course in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. The Spartans posted 15-under-par 849 (288-278-283) to finish in third place for the tournament.

"I think it's a tribute to women's golf,” Michigan State Head Coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said. “I think as the years go by, the scores are getting lower and lower. If you look to the future of the LPGA Tour, we've got to get our players used to posting numbers under-par now. I think the more they can do this, the more they can know they're capable and the easier that transition is going to be for them.”

Reigning GAM Women’s Player of the Year Christine Meier (Rochester Hills) and 2012 GAM Women’s Player of the Year Liz Nagel both finished in a tie for 10th place at 3-under-par 213.
