Championship Field Player Information




Congratulations on qualifying for the 107th Michigan Amateur Championship, which will be played at Country Club of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, June 19-23, 2018. Please note the information below. You will receive a player’s packet with more information when you register either on Sunday, June 17 or Monday, June 18. If you need to register late please contact Ken Hartmann, by the end of the business day on Friday, June 15.

TOURNAMENT DATE: Tuesday, June 19th – Saturday, June 23rd 

Note: There is construction from the start of 696 to I-75 (only the westbound lane).

: Your stroke-play tee times for Tuesday, June 19 and Wednesday, June 20 are included.  All contestants will start on the 1st and 10th holes and the playing order will be reversed for the second round.  These tee times will not be changed for any reason. The GAM will not honor any requests for special times.  Players need to be on their designated tee at least ten minutes prior to their start time.

PRACTICE ROUNDS:  Contestants are entitled to two complimentary practice rounds on Sunday, June 17 from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 18, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Call the pro shop at (313) 881-8779 to make these tee times. These times are set aside for tournament players only.  If a player violates this policy, he may lose his spot in the Championship.  Players will be allowed to play any time subject to availability.  Players must call in advance for tee times.  If a player would like to play an additional practice round outside of the complimentary two, he can do so at a rate and time at the discretion of Country Club of Detroit.  This rate includes cart and range balls prior to play only.  Practice facilities will open at noon on Sunday, June 17 and at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18. The practice facilities will close at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and Monday and on all tournament days. You must call (313) 881-8779 to schedule your tee time. Tee times will be on a first-come, first-served basis. If you do not have a full group, you will be paired with other players. The 10th tee must be cleared approximately 2 hours following closure of 1st tee on Sunday and Monday for maintenance purposes. Carts are not available on either June 17 or June 18.  Players may carry their own bag during the practice round, bring their own caddie, or use a personal push or pull cart.   

Note: In order to preserve the condition of the golf course, we request that players only play one ball and refrain from playing numerous approach shots or tee shots on par 3’s during your practice rounds. Violation of this may result in forfeiture of your position in the field.

REGISTRATION:  Registration will be under the canopy outside the Country Club of Detroit pro shop from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, June 18.  All players MUST register in person or contact the GAM Office by Friday, June 15 and notify the office of their arrival time.  A player who has not registered on Sunday/Monday and is arriving on Tuesday must check in 30 minutes prior to his scheduled tee time at the registration area in the pro shop. Any player who fails to register or notify the GAM of his late arrival may forfeit his spot in the championship field.

PACE OF PLAY POLICY:  The GAM has a specific pace of play policy in place.  This policy will be in effect for the Championship rounds.  If you are unfamiliar with this policy, we strongly urge you to familiarize yourself with the policy before teeing it up at Country Club of Detroit. 

BIO SKETCH FORM: Enclosed with this memo is a player biographical form, which you must complete and bring with you to registration on Sunday, June 17 or Monday, June 18. If you do not have it with you, we will provide you a sheet to fill out and complete before you will be allowed to play a practice round. Alternatively, you may fill it out online by logging into your profile at, clicking on Tournaments and select Player Bio.  


PRACTICE RANGE: Full range facilities will be available at Country Club of Detroit starting the afternoon of Sunday, June 17.  The range will open daily one hour prior to the first tee times.  The schedule will be 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, 6:00 a.m. on Thursday and 7:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.  Practice facilities will close at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, and 8 p.m. on Monday and all tournament days. You must hit the provided limited flight golf balls on the range only. Do NOT use a club that may travel beyond the listed maximum distance. You will be able to hit practice drivers at a designated spot on the Short Course.

FOOD & BEVERAGE: Fruit and water will be available for PLAYERS ONLY on the 1st and 10th tees each day.

SHOE SPIKE POLICY: All contestants MUST comply with the Shoe Spike Policy stipulated on the entry form and the Tournament Policies and Procedures.  This is a condition of the competition. Any player failing to comply with this condition will be DISQUALIFIED from the Championship.

CADDIES FOR TOURNAMENT ROUNDS: Players may carry their own bag, bring their own caddie, or use a push or pull cart.   Country Cub of Detroit will have a limited number of caddies available for hire. You must contact Country Club of Detroit to reserve a caddie by June 11. 

GPS AND RANGE FINDERS: The following Rule applies to players and caddies. In this competition, if a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his/her play, AND USES IT FOR THOSE OTHER CONDITIONS the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is TWO STROKES for the first breach of this rule and DISQUALIFICATION for a subsequent breach during the stipulated round.

DRESS CODE: Proper dress for the 2018 Michigan Amateur includes golf slacks, Bermuda-length shorts, collared golf shirt and approved non-metal spike shoes. Blue jeans, denim jeans, denim shorts, tennis shorts, tee shirts are not permitted. Players who fail to comply with this code will be asked to change or will not be permitted to compete. This must be followed at all times while on the premises of Country Club of Detroit.  Women’s dress code includes tops that have either a collar or sleeves. Women are not allowed to wear a collar-less, sleeve-less top.

LODGING: A block of rooms has been reserved at Hampton Inn – Detroit/Roseville. Call (586) 792-1500 to make a reservation under the Golf Association of Michigan block. The cutoff date is June 8, 2018.

WITHDRAWAL:  If a player must withdraw, please contact the GAM office promptly at or by phone at (248) 478-9242. If notifying after business hours, please send an e-mail and leave a message on voice mailbox 124.  Please indicate your tee time and tee assignment. We have a list of alternates who would like to play. Any player who fails to notify the GAM of his withdrawal is subject to suspension from future events, including the 2019 Michigan Amateur Championship.

Saturday, June 23 – Semifinals and Finals, Match Play, Tee times start at 8 a.m.
