Championship Player Memo
Congratulations on qualifying for the 93rd Michigan Amateur Championship, which will be played at Grosse Ile G&CC in Grosse Ile, June 22-26. Please note the information below. You will receive a player’s packet with more information when you register either on Sunday, June 20 or Monday, June 21.

STARTING TIMES: Your stroke play tee times for Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 23 are enclosed. All contestants will start on the 1st and 10th holes and the playing order will be flipped for the second round. These tee times will not be changed for any reason. The GAM will not honor any requests for special times.

PRACTICE ROUNDS: Contestants Only! Players who violate this policy may lose their spot in the championship. Contestants are entitled to two complimentary practice rounds under the following conditions: Contestants will be allowed to play anytime subject to availability. Players must call in advance for tee times and you must pay a guest fee of $55.00 which includes a cart that is mandatory. This fee includes range balls for warm-up prior to play only. Practice on Sunday, June 20, will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You must call (734)675-3866 to schedule your tee time. Tee times will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Any player who has played a practice round prior to those dates will be deemed to have played one of his practice rounds. If you do not have a full group, you will be paired with other players. The 10th tee must be cleared approximately 2 hours following closure of #1 tee on Sunday and Monday for maintenance purposes. Carts are not available on either June 20 or June 21. Players may carry their own bag during the practice round or bring their own caddie. There are no caddies available at the club.

Note: In order to preserve the condition of the golf course, we request that players only play one ball and refrain from playing numerous approach shots or tee shots on par 3’s during your practice rounds. Violation of this may result in forfeiture of your position in the field.

REGISTRATION: Will be located just outside the Men’s Locker Room. Registration hours are from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 20 and 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 21. All players MUST register in person or contact the GAM Office and notify the office of their arrival time. A player who has not registered on Sunday or Monday and is arriving on Tuesday must check in 30 minutes prior to his scheduled time at the registration area near the men’s locker room. Any player who fails to register or notify the GAM of their late arrival may forfeit his spot in the championship field.

BIO SKETCH FORM: Enclosed with this memo is a player biographical form, which you must complete and bring with you to registration on Sunday, June 20 or Monday, June 21. If you do not have it with you, we will provide you a sheet to fill out and complete before you will be allowed to play a practice round.


PRACTICE RANGE: Full range facilities will be available at Grosse Ile G&CC starting the afternoon of Sunday, June 20. The range will open daily one hour prior to the first tee times. The schedule will be 7:00 a.m. Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday at 6:30am, 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Check with the pro shop for closing times daily. Usually it will be open until 8 p.m.

FOOD & BEVERAGE: Complimentary continental breakfast for Players Only will be available at the clubhouse. This will be open from 6:30-9:45 a.m. Monday-Wednesday and Friday-Saturday and from 6:00-9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

SHOE SPIKE POLICY: All contestants MUST comply with the Shoe Spike Policy stipulated on the entry form and the Tournament Policies and Procedures. This is a condition of the competition. Any player failing to comply with this condition will be DISQUALIFIED from the Championship.

CADDIES: You may bring your own or you may reserve a club caddie on a very limited basis by calling Grosse Ile G&CC at (734) 675-3866. If you use a club caddie, it will be a $20 flat rate per round plus gratuity. Please call Grosse Ile golf services department by Friday, June 18, at 4 p.m., to reserve your caddie. You may also check at the club on Sunday and Monday during registration if you need a club caddie.


DRESS CODE: Proper dress for the 2004 Michigan Amateur includes golf slacks, Bermuda-length shorts, collared golf shirt and approved non-metal spike shoes. Blue jeans, denim jeans, denim shorts, tennis shorts, tee shirts and non-collared shirts are not permitted. Players who fail to comply with this code will be asked to change or will not be permitted to compete. This must be followed at all times while on the premises of Grosse Ile G&CC. Women’s dress code includes tops that have either a collar or sleeves. Women are not allowed to wear a collar-less, sleeve-less top. Monday evening dress for the player’s cookout is casual. For those players and guests who attend the Sweet 16 dinner, dress is coat & tie for men, and either a dress or pants outfit for women.

LODGING: The reserved hotels for the championship are Holiday Inn Express, Baymount Inn, and Best Western. Mention your participation in the Michigan Am Championship to receive the special rate at these three hotels. Contact numbers are listed on the bottom of the page for all 3 hotels. There are other lodging options within 20 minutes of Grosse Ile G&CC but no special rates have been secured at these facilities.

LOCKER ROOM: Upon registration, you will be directed to the Grosse Ile Men’s Locker room and they will provide you with a temporary locker if you so desire. Lockers are limited so you may have to share with another competitor.

PLAYER COOKOUT: You are cordially invited to attend a player cookout on Monday, June 21, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. on the back patio behind the clubhouse. There is no charge for contestants and you may bring guests at the price of $15 each. You should let us know of your plans at registration. Checks for this should be made payable to the GAM.

SWEET 16 DINNER: Any player who reaches the Sweet 16 (wins two matches on Thursday) is requested to attend a coat & tie dinner in their honor on Thursday, June 24, at Grosse Ile G&CC formal dining room. The reception will start at 7:00 p.m. with dinner to follow at 8:00 p.m. Players are entitled to bring one complimentary guest. Any others who attend will be charged a fee of $35 per person.

WITHDRAWAL: If a player must withdraw, please contact the GAM office promptly at (248) 478-9242. After business hours, please leave a message on voice mailbox 24. Please indicate your tee time and tee assignment. We have a list of alternates who would like to play. Any player who fails to notify the GAM of his withdrawal is subject to suspension from future events, including the 2005 Michigan Amateur Championship.
