Championship Player Memo
Congratulations! This correspondence verifies your qualifying into the 38th Michigan Junior State Amateur Championship at Point O’ Woods G&CC in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on Monday, August 22 through Thursday, August 25, 2016.


Monday, August 22 – 36 holes, stroke play; the low 32 players will proceed to match play. A tie for the medalist honors as well as the 32nd spot, shall be decided immediately after the completion of the 2nd round by a hole-by-hole playoff.

Note:  If a player qualifies and is unable to compete in the Match Play Championship, he must notify the Committee immediately so that the next eligible player may be included.

Match Play: The stipulated round shall be extended to as many holes as required for a match to be won. General numerical USGA draw shall be used.

Tuesday, August 23  
AM- First round match play, 18 holes

Wednesday, August 24
AM – Second round match play, 18 holes
PM – Quarterfinal Matches, 18 holes

Thursday, August 25  
AM – Semifinal round, 18 holes
PM – Final round, 18 holes

Please note your starting time and starting tee assignment from the enclosed pairing sheets. You should arrive at your assigned tee at least ten (10) minutes prior to your scheduled starting time for instructions from the starter.

Note:  Should there be a need to adjust second-round starting times, players will be notified when they return their first round scorecards.  Be sure to confirm your afternoon starting time before leaving the scoring area.

MATCH-PLAY PAIRINGS:  Will be available via and via phone. The phone number will be posted on the scoreboard.

DIRECTIONS:  Take I-94 to exit 34 (196-N/US-31 N) to exit 1 (Red Arrow Hwy). Go E (right) off the exit 1 mile then S (right) on Roslyn Road. Go 1 mile to the club entrance.

LODGING: A block of rooms has been arranged at the Comfort Suites in Benton Harbor. Address is 1825 Meadowbrook Rd., Benton Harbor, MI 49022. The group rate is $114/night. Please call (269) 925-8800 for reservations and identify yourself as a Michigan Junior State Amateur participant. The room block rate ends as of July 31st. 

PRACTICE ROUND:  Please contact the golf shop for rates and availability, (269) 944-5851.  Contestants must call in advance to reserve a tee time and identify themselves as Michigan Junior State Amateur contestants.

GPS AND RANGE FINDERS: In this competition a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance ONLY. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used. 

CADDIES/CARTS: No caddies are allowed during any phase of the Championship.  All players are required to walk.  Contestants may carry their own bag.  Carts are not permitted for spectators.  Pull carts will be allowed for the championship per the host clubs discretion. 

FOOD:  Monday: A complimentary lunch will be served only to the participants involved with the Michigan Junior State Amateur.  Lunch will be served between the morning and afternoon rounds.  On all other days the clubhouse will have food available for purchase. 

GAM DRESS CODE: Shirts with collars and sleeves are required; however women may wear collarless shirts with sleeves or sleeveless shirts with collars. Neither tank tops, tee shirts, short shorts, gym shorts, cut-offs, bathing suits nor denim pants/shorts are permitted. Players are expected to adhere to the dress code. 

PRACTICE RANGE: Complimentary for players prior to play on the days of the competition.  The range will be open 1 hour prior to the first tee time of each day.

PLAYOFF:  In case of ties for the final spots into the match play, there will be a sudden death playoff.

WITHDRAWAL:  If you must withdraw, contact the GAM office at (248) 478-9242. If you call after business hours, please leave message on voice mail #24.  Failure to notify may result in suspension from future GAM competitions.
