Championship Player Memo

Please note the information below. You will receive a player’s packet with more information when you register either on Saturday, June 20 or Sunday, June 21. If you need to register late please contact Ken Hartmann, 

STARTING TIMES: Your stroke-play tee times for Monday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 23 are included.  All contestants will start on the 1st and 10th holes and the playing order will be reversed for the second round.  These tee times will not be changed for any reason. The GAM will not honor any requests for special times.  Players need to be on their designated tee at least ten minutes prior to their start time.

PRACTICE ROUNDS:  Contestants are entitled to two complimentary practice rounds on Saturday, June 20 from 2 – 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday, June 21, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Call the pro shop at (248) 353-3553 to make these tee times. These times are set aside for tournament players only.  If a player violates this policy, he may lose his spot in the Championship.  Players will be allowed to play any time subject to availability.  Players must call in advance for tee times.  If a player would like to play an additional practice round outside of the complimentary two, he can do so at the reduced rate of $60.00 which includes a cart (optional) and greens fee.  Practice facilities will open at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20 and at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 21. The practice facilities will close at 7:30 p.m. on both practice days and on all tournament days. You must call (248) 353-3553 to schedule your tee time. Tee times will be on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you do not have a full group, you will be paired with other players. The 10th tee must be cleared approximately 2 hours following closure of 1st tee on Saturday and Sunday for maintenance purposes. Carts are not available on either June 20 or June 21.  Players may carry their own bag during the practice round, bring their own caddie, or arrange for a Plum Hollow CC caddie. PULL CARTS ARE NOT ALLOWED at Plum Hollow CC.


Note: You will be playing the Blue tees. In order to preserve the condition of the golf course, we request that players only play one ball and refrain from playing numerous approach shots or tee shots on par 3’s during your practice rounds. Violation of this may result in forfeiture of your position in the field.

PARKING: During the stroke-play portion of the competition, the parking lot at Plum Hollow CC will be used for PLAYERS ONLY. Players will receive a parking pass at registration. We encourage caddies, as well as spectating friends and family, to share a ride in with the players. For caddies and spectators that are riding separately, you must park at Word of Faith Church at 20000 W Nine Mile Rd in Southfield. There will be a shuttle running from there to the course.

REGISTRATION:  Registration will be under the canopy outside of the main clubhouse between the hours are from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday June 20, and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday June 21.  All players MUST register in person or contact the GAM Office by Friday, June 19th and notify the office of their arrival time.  A player who has not registered on Saturday/Sunday and is arriving on Monday must check in 30 minutes prior to his scheduled tee time at the registration area in the main lobby. Any player who fails to register or notify the GAM of his late arrival may forfeit his spot in the championship field. 

 The GAM adopted a new pace of play policy beginning this year.  This policy will be in effect for the Championship rounds.  Enclosed you will find a copy of the policy.  If you are unfamiliar with this policy, we strongly urge you to familiarize yourself with the policy before teeing it up at Plum Hollow CC.  

BIO SKETCH FORM: Enclosed with this memo is a player biographical form, which you must complete and bring with you to registration on Saturday, June 20 or Sunday, June 21. If you do not have it with you, we will provide you a sheet to fill out and complete before you will be allowed to play a practice round. Alternatively, you may fill it out online by logging into your profile at, click on Tournaments and select Player Bio.  


PRACTICE RANGE: Full range facilities will be available at Plum Hollow CC starting the afternoon of Saturday, June 20.  The range will open daily one hour prior to the first tee times.  The schedule will be 6:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday and 7:00 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.  Practice facilities will close at 7:30 p.m. both practice days and all tournament days. 

FOOD & BEVERAGE: Fruit and water will be available for Players Only on the 1st and 10th tees each day. The tournament cookout will be taking place during lunch on Tuesday. June 23rd. If you tee off in the morning, you can eat following your round. If you have an afternoon tee time, you can tee off before your round.

SHOE SPIKE POLICY: All contestants MUST comply with the Shoe Spike Policy stipulated on the entry form and the Tournament Policies and Procedures.  This is a condition of the competition. Any player failing to comply with this condition will be DISQUALIFIED from the Championship. 

CADDIES FOR TOURNAMENT ROUNDS: You may bring your own caddie or you may reserve a club caddie by contacting Plum Hollow CC (248) 353-3553 by June 16th. If you wish to employee a club caddie, it will be a $50 flat rate per round. PULL CARTS ARE NOT ALLOWED at Plum Hollow CC. 

GPS AND RANGE FINDERS: The following Rule applies to players and caddies. In this competition, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance ONLY. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used. Penalty for breach of Rule: Disqualification. 

DRESS CODE: Proper dress for the 2015 Michigan Amateur includes golf slacks, Bermuda-length shorts, collared golf shirt and approved non-metal spike shoes. Blue jeans, denim jeans, denim shorts, tennis shorts, tee shirts are not permitted. Players who fail to comply with this code will be asked to change or will not be permitted to compete. This must be followed at all times while on the premises of Plum Hollow CC.  Women’s dress code includes tops that have either a collar or sleeves. Women are not allowed to wear a collar-less, sleeve-less top. For those players and guests who attend the Sweet 16 dinner, dress is coat & tie for men, and either a dress or pants outfit for women.

LODGING: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Express – Southfield at a rate of $100 per night plus tax. Call (248) 350-2400 to make a reservation under the Michigan Amateur Golf Tournament block. If you reserve online, the code is MAG. The drop-dead date for the room block is June 1st.

SWEET 16 DINNER: Any player who reaches the Sweet 16 (wins two matches on Wednesday) is requested to attend a coat & tie dinner in their honor on Wednesday, June 24, at Plum Hollow CC.   The reception and dinner will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Plum Hollow CC Ballroom. Players are entitled to bring one complimentary guest. Any others who attend will be charged a fee of $25 per person.

WITHDRAWAL:  If a player must withdraw, please contact the GAM office promptly at (248) 478-9242. After business hours, please leave a message on voice mailbox 24.  Please indicate your tee time and tee assignment. We have a list of alternates who would like to play. Any player who fails to notify the GAM of his withdrawal is subject to suspension from future events, including the 2016 Michigan Amateur Championship.

Thursday, June 25 – 3rd Round, Quarterfinals, Match Play, Tee times start at 8 a.m.

Friday, June 26 – Semifinals and Finals, Match Play, Tee times start at 8 a.m.
