Muskegon Country Club will play host for this year’s 102nd Michigan Amateur, June 18-22.  Muskegon last hosted the event in 2005 when Christian Vozza of Traverse City was the champion.

Founded in 1908 and designed my famed architect Donald Ross, Muskegon CC still sits on its original acreage and continues to be a family-oriented club that is an important part of the community. Those familiar with classic Donald Ross design will not be surprised to know the greens at Muskegon CC are as challenging as they come. Don’t be fooled by the fact that the course is not excessively long; the greens will more than compensate for that. The ninth, 10th and 16th greens specifically could wreak havoc for some tournament participants.  A wet Michigan spring could also bring the heather into play just in time for the GAM’s signature event.

The Michigan Amateur begins with two rounds of stroke play, over a two-day period. At the completion of stroke play, the field is cut to 64 for the first round of match play. Match play continues for three days, six rounds until a champion emerges on the final afternoon of the tournament.  As with all GAM events, spectators are welcome and admission is free.

In addition to hosting the 2005 and 2013 Michigan Amateur events, Muskegon CC has been the spot for several U.S. Amateur Qualifiers.
