Championship Player Memo

This correspondence will verify your entry for the Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship on Monday, July 16, through Friday July 20, 2012. 


Please note your starting time and starting tee assignment from the enclosed pairing sheets. You should arrive at your assigned tee at least ten (10) minutes prior to your scheduled starting time for instructions from the starter.


DIRECTIONS: Take 1-96 to 127 N to the Trowbridge Road exit. Go E on Trowbridge Road and turn right on Harrison Road. Entrance is just past Mt. Hope Road (about 1 mile ) on the left side.

LODGING: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hampton Inn & Suites, Okemos, for $89 plus taxes. Please call 517-349-6100 by July 1, 2012, to reserve a room and receive that rate. Use the group code MWG.

GPS AND RANGE FINDERS: In this competition, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance ONLY. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.  A PROHIBITED DEVICE SHALL INCLUDE ANY CELL PHONE OR SMART PHONE (E.G., I-PHONE, BLACKBERRY, ETC.) CAPABLE OF OPERATING AN APPLICATION FOR YARDAGE OR OTHER CONDITIONS OF GOLF INFORMATION.  

GAM DRESS CODE:  Shirts with collars and sleeves are required; however women may wear collarless shirts with sleeves or sleeveless shirts with collars.  Neither tank tops, tee shirts, short shorts, gym shorts, cut-offs, bathing suits nor denim pants/shorts are permitted.  Players and caddies are expected to adhere to the dress code.

FOOD:  The Clubhouse will have food available to purchase. 

CADDIES/CARTS:  All players are required to walk. Contestants may carry their own bag or bring their own caddie. Some caddies are available through Forest Akers if you call Ray at 517-355-1636 by July 7th.  Pull carts may be used, but there are none available at Forest Akers.

PRACTICE RANGE:  Complimentary for players on the days of the competition.  Range opens daily at 7:00 a.m.

WITHDRAWAL:  If you must withdraw, contact the GAM office at (248) 478-9242. If you call after business hours, please leave message on voice mail #24.  Failure to notify may result in suspension from future GAM competitions.

SWEET 16 DINNER: Players who reach the Sweet 16 (win one match on Wednesday) are requested to attend the sweet sixteen dinner in their honor on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at The University Club. The reception will start at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:00 p.m.  All Michigan Woman Amateur contestants and guests are welcome to attend. Guests will be charged a fee of $25 per person.  Any player who advances to the round of sixteen will be a guest of the GAM.  Dressy attire!!



STROKE PLAY - 36 hole qualifying to determine 32 players for match play. 

Monday July 16 - First round, 18 holes, stroke play. Tee times begin at 8:30 AM

Tuesday July 17 - Second round, 18 holes, stroke play.  Should there be a tie for final    qualifying spots, a sudden death playoff shall start immediately after all scores have been posted. Tee times begin at 8:30AM

MATCH PLAY – USGA General numerical draw shall be used.  The stipulated round shall be extended to      as many holes as necessary for the match to be won.

Wednesday July 18    Round of 32, 18 holes. Tee times begin at 8:30 AM

Thursday July 19       AM – Round of 16, 18 holes. Tee times begin at 8:30 AM

PM – Round of 8, 18 holes

Friday July 20           AM – Semifinal matches, 18 holes. Tee times begin at 8:30 and 8:45

                                  PM – Final Match, 18 holes
