101st  MICHIGAN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP, OAKLAND HILLS  COUNTRY CLUB- NORTH

 

 

Congratulations on qualifying for the 101st Michigan Amateur Championship, which will be played at Oakland Hills Country Club - North in Bloomfield Hills MI, June 18-22, 2012. Please note the information below. You will receive a player’s packet with more information when you register either on Saturday, June 16 or Sunday, June 17. If you need to register late please contact Ken Hartmann, khartmann@gam.org.

 

STARTING TIMES: Your stroke play tee times for Monday, June 18 and Tuesday, June 19 are attached.  All contestants will start on the 1st and 10th holes and the playing order will be reversed for the second round.  These tee times will not be changed for any reason. The GAM will not honor any requests for special times.  Players need to be on their designated tee at least ten minutes prior to their start time.

 

PRACTICE ROUNDS:  Contestants are entitled to two complimentary practice rounds prior to the Championship these may be utilized prior to or on Saturday afternoon June 16 and after 10:00 am on Sunday, June 17.  Call the First Tee (248) 433-0674 between June 1 and June 13 to make these tee times. These times are set aside for tournament players only.  If a player violates this policy, he may lose his spot in the Championship.  Players will be allowed to play any time subject to availability.  Players must call in advance for tee times.  If a player would like to play an additional practice round outside of the complimentary two, he can do so at the reduced rate of $55.00 which includes a cart and range balls prior to the round.  Practice on Saturday, June 16 will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  You must call (248) 433-0674 to schedule your tee time. Tee times will be on a first-come, first-served basis.  Any player who has played a practice round prior to those dates will be deemed to have played one of his practice rounds. If you do not have a full group, you will be paired with other players. The 10th tee must be cleared approximately 2 hours following closure of #1 tee on Saturday and Sunday for maintenance purposes. Carts are not available on either June 16 or June 17, players playing practice rounds prior to these dates may use a cart for an additional fee of $30.00. Players may carry their own bag during the practice round, bring their own caddie, or arrange for an Oakland Hills caddie.

 

Note: You will be playing the Gold tees. In order to preserve the condition of the golf course, we request that players only play one ball and refrain from playing numerous approach shots or tee shots on par 3’s during your practice rounds. Violation of this may result in forfeiture of your position in the field.

DIRECTIONS:   I-696 to Telegraph Road. Go N on Telegraph to Maple Road. Go E on Maple ½ mile to the entrance.

REGISTRATION:  Registration hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday (inside main lobby), June 16 and 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday (in player hospitality area), June 17.  All players MUST register in person or contact the GAM Office by Friday, June 15th and notify the office of their arrival time.  A player who has not registered on Sunday or Monday and is arriving on Monday must check in 30 minutes prior to his scheduled tee time at the registration area next to the scoreboard. Any player who fails to register or notify the GAM of his late arrival may forfeit his spot in the championship field.

 

PACE OF PLAY POLICY:  The GAM adopted a new pace of play policy beginning in 2006.  This policy will be in effect for the Championship rounds.  Enclosed you will find a copy of the policy.  If you are unfamiliar with this policy, we strongly urge you to familiarize yourself with the policy before teeing it up at Oakland Hills. 

 

BIO SKETCH FORM: Enclosed with this memo is a player biographical form, which you must complete and bring with you to registration on Saturday, June 16 or Sunday, June 17. If you do not have it with you, we will provide you a sheet to fill out and complete before you will be allowed to play a practice round. Alternatively, you may fill it out online.

 ALL PLAYERS MUST REGISTER PRIOR TO THEIR PRACTICE ROUND

PRACTICE RANGE: Full range facilities will be available at Oakland Hills starting the afternoon of Saturday, June 16.  The range will open daily one hour prior to the first tee times.  The schedule will be 6:30 a.m. on Monday, 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 7:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.  Check with the pro shop for closing times daily. Usually it will be open until 8 p.m.

 

FOOD & BEVERAGE: Fruit and water will be available for Players Only on the first and tenth tees each day. A lunch will be provided for players on Monday from 11 a.m. -3 p.m. Players are asked to eat after their round or prior to teeing off in the afternoon. Players will be subject to penalty (Rule 6-7) for stopping during the round.

 

SHOE SPIKE POLICY: All contestants MUST comply with the Shoe Spike Policy stipulated on the entry form and the Tournament Policies and Procedures.  This is a condition of the competition. Any player failing to comply with this condition will be DISQUALIFIED  from the Championship.

                    PULL CARTS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT OAKLAND HILLS!! 

CADDIES FOR TOURNAMENT ROUNDS: You may bring your own caddie or you may reserve a club caddie by contacting Bob Byerlein at Oakland Hills by emailing bbyerlein@oakland-hills.com by June 17th. If you wish to employee a club caddie, it will be a $40 flat rate per round. 

GPS AND RANGE FINDERS: In this competition, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance ONLY. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used. A prohibited device shall include any cell phone or smart phone (e.g., i-phone, blackberry, etc.) capable of operating an application for yardage or other conditions of golf information.  

 

DRESS CODE: Proper dress for the 2012 Michigan Amateur includes golf slacks, Bermuda-length shorts, collared golf shirt and approved non-metal spike shoes. Blue jeans, denim jeans, denim shorts, tennis shorts, tee shirts are not permitted. Players who fail to comply with this code will be asked to change or will not be permitted to compete. This must be followed at all times while on the premises of Oakland Hills Country Club.  Women’s dress code includes tops that have either a collar or sleeves. Women are not allowed to wear a collar-less, sleeve-less top. Monday evening dress for the player cookout is casual. For those players and guests who attend the Sweet 16 dinner, dress is coat & tie for men, and either a dress or pants outfit for women.

LODGING:  – A block of rooms has been set aside at the Hampton Inn, Northwestern Highway, Southfield, for $69 plus taxes. Please call 248-356-5500 before June 6, 2012, to receive that rate and identify yourself as a Michigan Amateur contestant.

 

SWEET 16 DINNER: Any player who reaches the Sweet 16 (wins two matches on Wednesday) is requested to attend a coat & tie dinner in their honor on Wednesday, June 20, at Oakland Hills CC.   The reception and dinner will run from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Players are entitled to bring one complimentary guest. Any others who attend will be charged a fee of $30 per person.

 

WITHDRAWAL:  If a player must withdraw, please contact the GAM office promptly at (248) 478-9242. After business hours, please leave a message on voice mailbox 24.  Please indicate your tee time and tee assignment. We have a list of alternates who would like to play. Any player who fails to notify the GAM of his withdrawal is subject to suspension from future events, including the 2013 Michigan Amateur Championship.

Monday June 18 – Stroke Play Qualifying (18 Holes), Tee times start at 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Tuesday, June 19 – Stroke Play Qualifying (18 Holes), Tee times start at 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday, June 20 – 1st & 2nd Rounds, Match Play (64 Qualifiers), 7:15 a.m. matches start off #1 Tee Only;

Wednesday Night - Sweet 16 Dinner – 7:30 p.m. Oakland Hills Country Club

Thursday, June 21 – 3rd Round, Quarterfinals, Match Play, Tee times start at 8 a.m.

Friday, June 22 – Semifinals and Finals, Match Play, Tee times start at 8 a.m.
