Championship Player Memo

Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship on Monday, July 25, through Friday July 29, 2011. 


Please note your starting time and starting tee assignment from the enclosed pairing sheets. You should arrive at your assigned tee at least ten (10) minutes prior to your scheduled starting time for instructions from the starter.




DIRECTIONS:  Located on the S side of M-59, 1 mile W of Milford Road. From US-23, take M-59 E 5 miles to the club.

GPS AND RANGE FINDERS: In this competition, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance ONLY. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.  A PROHIBITED DEVICE SHALL INCLUDE ANY CELL PHONE OR SMART PHONE (E.G., I-PHONE, BLACKBERRY, ETC.) CAPABLE OF OPERATING AN APPLICATION FOR YARDAGE OR OTHER CONDITIONS OF GOLF INFORMATION.  


GAM DRESS CODE:  Shirts with collars and sleeves are required; however women may wear collarless shirts with sleeves or sleeveless shirts with collars.  Neither tank tops, tee shirts, short shorts, gym shorts, cut-offs, bathing suits nor denim pants/shorts are permitted.  Players and caddies are expected to adhere to the dress code.


FOOD:  The Clubhouse will have food available to purchase. 


CADDIES/CARTS:  All players are required to walk. Contestants may carry their own bag or bring their own caddie. Caddies at Prestwick are limited, and if you wish to reserve one, you must call by July 19th. Caddies must walk. Carts are not permitted for caddies or spectators. Pull carts may be used, but there are none available at Prestwick Village.


PRACTICE RANGE:  Complimentary for players on the days of the competition.  Range opens daily at 7:00 a.m.


WITHDRAWAL:  If you must withdraw, contact the GAM office at (248) 478-9242. If you call after business hours, please leave message on voice mail #24.  Failure to notify may result in suspension from future GAM competitions.


SWEET 16 DINNER: Players who reach the Sweet 16 (win one match on Wednesday) are requested to attend the sweet sixteen dinner in their honor on Wednesday, July 28 , 2010, at Prestwick Village GC in the dining room. The reception will start at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:00 p.m.  All Michigan Woman Amateur Contestants and guests are welcome to attend. Guests will be charged a fee of $25 per person.  Any player who advances to the round of sixteen will be a guest of the GAM.  Dressy attire!!





STROKE PLAY - 36 hole qualifying to determine 32 players for match play. 


Monday July 25 - First round, 18 holes, stroke play. Tee times begin at 8:30 AM

Tuesday July 26 - Second round, 18 holes, stroke play.  Should there be a tie for final    qualifying spots, a sudden death playoff shall start immediately after all scores have been posted. Tee times begin at 8:30AM


MATCH PLAY – USGA General numerical draw shall be used.  The stipulated round shall be extended to as many holes as necessary for the match to be won.

Wednesday July 27    Round of 32, 18 holes. Tee times begin at 8:30 AM

Thursday July 28        AM – Round of 16, 18 holes. Tee times begin at 8:30 AM

                                    PM – Round of 8, 18 holes

Friday July 29            AM – Semifinal matches, 18 holes. Tee times begin at 8:30 and 8:45 AM

                                   PM – Final Match, 18 holes
