Hello from Liverpool!
Two days have gone by since the first post and I am just getting time to write a recap. In short, both courses we have played so far – Southport & Ainsdale and Royal Liverpool have been AMAZING. Everything you hope for in links golf… FIRM ground, DEEP Bunkers, light rain, personable caddies, and BEAUTIFUL views.
Some locals have told us our lineup only gets better, but these two have been tough to beat.
We’ve enjoyed a full British style breakfast at Formby Hall Resort each morning, then headed by luxury coach to the courses.
Some of you may know our hosts from Sullivan Golf Travel – David and Terry Graham! They have been organizing tee times, caddies, and arrangements for our four non-golfers on the trips. Today was a Beatles day in Liverpool for them.
The group was really able to soak up some history today at Liverpool. We were formally welcomed in the shop and on the first tee by one of the golf professionals, and after the round, we all admired the photos, trophies, and records on display in the main clubhouse.
The club has hosted the Open Championship twice this century won by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, but the course was laid out in 1869 –
the second oldest links in England. The Walker Cup was recently played here and won by the US team two weeks ago.
The club is proudly among the venues of the Bobby Jones “Impregnable Quadrilateral” in 1930, hosting the Open Championship in that year.
We were happy , humbled, and honored to visit.
Our man Rocky Patel arranged for our entire group to enjoy a meal at the finest Indian Restaurant in Southport tonight and we had a fantastic time – great food and better company. We’re just getting started.
Formby tomorrow which will be a big challenge for all of us and the forecast is the wettest of the week, but our good luck may continue.
Thanks again for following along with us!
