5th GAM Senior Match Play Championship Taking Place at Travis Pointe Country Club

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Travis Pointe Country Club of Ann Arbor, Mich., will host the 5th GAM Senior Match Play Championship, May 28-31. The field consists of 182 golfers competing in two divisions, Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65+).

Travis Pointe Country Club will play as a par-72, 6,471-yard golf course for the Senior Division, and as a par-72, 6,141-yard course for the Super Senior Division. On Tuesday, May 28th, the tournament will begin with 18 holes of stroke play qualifying, where the low 32 in the Senior Division and the low 16 in the Super Senior Division will advance to match play. The Championship will conclude with the final matches for both divisions on Friday, May 31st.

In 2012, Ray Emsley of Davisburg, Mich., captured the title in the Senior Division, while John Lindholm of Grand Blanc, Mich., won the Super Senior Division. Both men are looking to defend their titles in 2013.

Michigan falls to Ontario, 7-5, in GAM/GAO Matches

Port Stanley, Ontario - The Golf Association of Ontario topped the Golf Association of Michigan, 7-5, to capture the 2013 GAM/GAO Matches at Redtail Golf Club in Port Stanley, Ontario. Each squad won 4 singles matches on Friday, with Ontario’s 3-1 advantage during Thursday’s best-ball matches proving to be the difference. Bill Zylstra of Dearborn Heights, Mich., was the only member of the GAM squad to win both of his matches in the competition.

GLEN NAGER:

         Last November, after an extensive review, we proposed Rule 14-1b, to prohibit anchoring the club in making a stroke. Having heard and considered many thoughtful comments for and against the proposal, the USGA and The R&A have now adopted the Rule, effective January 1, 2016. This Rule has broad support across the world-wide golf community. While some may disagree with this decision, as Chair of the USGA’s governing board, I want to ensure that our reasoning is understood by all.

EAST LANSING – A player and instructor, PGA professional Steve Brady of Rochester, a creator, course architect Tom Doak of Traverse City, and a golf executive and rules official, Fritz Balmer of Fenton, talked with emotion about the people who helped them as they earned their spots in the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.

4th GAM Senior/Mid-Amateur Team Championship

Casey Baker (Ann Arbor) and Greg Reynolds (Grand Blanc) defended their title at the 4th GAM Senior/Mid-Amateur Team Championship held at Oakland University Golf & Learning Center Monday. 
Teams consisted of one Mid-Amateur and one Senior player. Baker and Reynolds shot 70-68--138 in the four-ball format tournament. That was six strokes higher than their winning score from last year's tournament.
